Biography
I'm a 22-year-old college student from the Midwest, balancing the demands of life and education while pursuing a bachelor's degree in Biology. Back in high school, I was deeply immersed in Cross Country and Track, running through every season like it was second nature. But everything changed when I stumbled upon climbing—it was like love at first ascent. The moment I found climbing, I left running behind without a second thought. Now, I’m living out of my car, which has become my mobile home, while juggling a full-time job alongside my studies. Life's a bit of a balancing act, but I wouldn't have it any other way!
Q&A
Q: How did you discover your passion for climbing?
A: One day, a climbing friend invited me to try bouldering, and it was my fear of heights that unexpectedly sparked my passion for it. It might sound strange, but it was through this experience that I realized fear, along with the limits we believe hold us back, are things we impose on ourselves. As I faced my fear, I discovered a new sense of freedom and determination, understanding that the boundaries we perceive are often self-imposed. This realization has fueled my passion for climbing ever since.I've always felt a strong pull toward climbing, whether it was buildings, trees, or rocks. In my hometown, we didn't have a gym or natural rock formations, so I would climb whatever I could get my hands on until I eventually moved out West.
Q: How do you overcome mental barriers or fears while climbing?
A: Constantly pushing myself to improve, I never stop learning. There's always an internal battle within me to overcome barriers and keep growing in this sport. Every climb is an opportunity to surpass my own limits and become better than I was before.
Respect the process and progression. It's easy to push too hard when your skills improve quickly, but without solid technique, gaps in your training will catch up with you. Instead of correcting basics like footwork later, focus on building a strong foundation from the start. While it's tempting to power through, mastering the fundamentals early is more beneficial long term. Also, remember to condition! Adding weights, cardio, and other exercises will enhance your climbing skills.
Q:What do you enjoy most about being part of the climbing community?
A:Most climbers are incredibly kind, with a positive energy and vibe that makes them a joy to be around. Their warmth and welcoming nature create a supportive community that’s as inspiring as the climbs themselves.
Q: How ACOPA influenced your approach to climbing and your career as an athlete?
A: My first climbing shoes were Acopa, which I used when I was just a beginner. As I progressed in the sport, I upgraded to the NOVA, and they've been with me every step of the way as I've grown as an athlete. I really loved them—those shoes gave me the confidence I needed in every competition. If I wasn't wearing them, I felt like things wouldn't go as well.
