Biography
I'm a 22-year-old college student from the Midwest, balancing the demands of life and education while pursuing a bachelor's degree in Biology. Back in high school, I was deeply immersed in Cross Country and Track, running through every season like it was second nature. But everything changed when I stumbled upon climbing—it was like love at first ascent. The moment I found climbing, I left running behind without a second thought. Now, I’m living out of my car, which has become my mobile home, while juggling a full-time job alongside my studies. Life's a bit of a balancing act, but I wouldn't have it any other way!
Q&A
Q: How did you discover your passion for climbing?
A: I've always felt a strong pull toward climbing, whether it was buildings, trees, or rocks. In my hometown, we didn't have a gym or natural rock formations, so I would climb whatever I could get my hands on until I eventually moved out West.
Q: What advice would you give to someone who is new to climbing and eager to improve?
A: Time on the wall actually climbing is far far more important than anything else. You can climb hard without ever touching a hangboard or gym equipment if you just learn the techniques.
Respect the process and progression. It's easy to push too hard when your skills improve quickly, but without solid technique, gaps in your training will catch up with you. Instead of correcting basics like footwork later, focus on building a strong foundation from the start. While it's tempting to power through, mastering the fundamentals early is more beneficial long term. Also, remember to condition! Adding weights, cardio, and other exercises will enhance your climbing skills.
Q:What motivates you to continue pushing your limits in climbing?
A:I'm a very competitive person so it isn't too difficult to stay motivated, but I highly recommend having strong friends to help push you further.
Q: Can you share a specific feature or aspect of ACOPA climbing shoes that you find particularly beneficial to your performance?
A: I've tried upwards of 8 brands of climbing shoes, and probably 40+ different shoes. Out of all of them, none were even close to as comfortable as the Acopa Novas. You really can't climb at your limit when you are in constant pain from a shoe, and Acopa fixed that for me.
Q: In what ways do you think ACOPA stands out from other climbing shoe brands in terms of innovation and quality?
A: A few things I've noticed about my Acopas that stand out are the breathability, durability, and sensitivity. Climbing in southwest Utah is very hot and tends to be sweatier weather, but my acopas always stay cool and comfortable the whole session.
